During this three-day workshop, TJ Cunningham will present the two, basic visual concepts that make a landscape painting successful. These concepts will enable students to make trees appear vertical while making the surrounding fields flat. Mountains will appear distant and the sky will seem to glow. These two concepts will help reinforce and enable students ranging in proficiency from beginner to advanced.
Weather permitting the entire class will take place on the beautiful grounds of the Southern Vermont Art Center. One of the best ways to learn how to paint is by watching and TJ will spend each morning demonstrating his painting process. Students are invited to take notes, paint along or both.
Following a brief lunch break everyone will choose a nearby subject that interests them. Cunningham will spend the rest of the day giving one on one assistance and advice. During this personalized instruction paint quality, value pattern, abstraction and many other ideas will all be discussed as valuable tools when used in landscape painting.
